A few students from our class have been published in The Pantagraph's "Flying Horse" recently. Since we can't celebrate this in the classroom, I wanted to share here on our blog. (As more are printed in the coming weeks, I will add them.)

Your Oakland family wanted to say hi and let you know that we are thinking of you . . . and miss you so much!

The Playaways are very helpful and it makes things easier to read. They have buttons to control the track and volume. They come in boxes and you have to use your own headphones to listen to the audio. The Playawyas are awesome because we love to listen to read alouds. We all love the Playaways. by Maci, Zoey, & Camila
On January 25, we attended the Masterpiece assembly. Throughout the whole show there was a puppet performance and our librarian, Mrs. Martin, read chapter 1. Masterpiece is part of the "One School, One Book" book club. Last year was Adventures of a South Pole Pig and the year before we read Kenny and the Dragon. The main characters are Marvin, his family, James, and the Pompaday family. Marin is a beetle and lives under the kitchen sink with his family. In chapter 1, Marvin had to go down the drain pipe to get Mrs. Pomapady's contact lens. He had to get it so the plumber wouldn't find his cousin, aunt, and uncle's house. After the assembly, our mascot, Okie, came to each classroom and waved and said hi! Also, our principal, Mr. LaFrance, came in to our class with a sled that had Marvin on it. Marvin carried the books on his back. There were enough novels for the whole school to get one. This week, Mrs. Foley let's us draw comics of the story while she read. Check them out! Let's find out what happens this year as we read Masterpiece together! by Lyla, Fallon, & Harsith
Dav Pilkey wrote and illustrated books including Captain Underpants, Dog Breath, Dog Man, Kat Kong, and Dogzilla. Kat Kong and Dogzilla both involved Dav's pets: Leia, Dwane, Rabies, Flash, and Blueberry. In Dog Breath, Hally, the dog had a major problem with her breath. Also, Dav Pilkey had a bad habit that in school . . . he wrote comics during class. He also suffered from ADHD when he was a kid. Dav lives with his wife in the Pacific Northwest. Dog Man is a popular book series he create. Our class enjoys it. The villain is Petey, and the heroes ares Dog Man, So-HO, and Lil Pete. Dav likes silly humor, and we do, too! That's why we love Dav Pilkey. |
