Recently we had a fall harvest party. We got to to outside and play games like find leaves with numbers on the back and add up how much you had. The green team won. Next we had to hold a pumpkin between our arms and run to give the pumpkin to the next person in our group. Then we had snack and a memory game. There were fall pictures on the board and we had to remember what we saw and write them down. Malachi was the winner. We also did a guessing game. There was a jar of popcorn kernels. We guessed how many were in the jar. The closest number was the winner. William guessed the most, and he won that game. All of the game winners got prizes. The fall party was fun. Thank you to all of the parents who planned such a great event!
We have started to do a new lesson on animals that form groups to survive. We learned how whales catch their food and how penguins stay warm in Antarctica. First was watched short videos of these animals two times each. Then we filled out a sheet. We asked our own questions about the videos, then we shared. The next day, Mrs. Foley put our questions on the board and we did some experiments. We had heat packs and we put 2 on our hands. Then we knew how warm it was like penguins huddle up. Whales catch their food by spinning in the shape of a circle and making bubbles. In another experiment, we pretended we were the whales and the marbles were the fish. When the marbles were released, we had to work together to keep them from swimming away. We also used a cup, straw, and rice and stirred it up to show how whales catch fish. Science is very educational. We have a lot of fun in science.
Recently in music we have been practicing "Ode to Joy." This song was composed and conducted by Ludwig Van Beethoven. He was born in Germany and died at the age of 57. We performed "Ode to Joy" for Mrs. Foley on Wednesday the 21st. We used barred instruments, boom pipes, and boomwhackers. Barred instruments have wood or metal bars. We played mettallophones and xylophones. Boom pipes are big or small. Boomwhackers are small and long and you whack them on the ground or on your hand. Music was a blast!
A lot of kids have received awards these past few weeks. For example, there were 22 kids who passed the quarterly Reading Counts goal. The four new kids who have got the A+ Attitude award are Kaitlynn, Devam, Avery, and Pranav. Alexxa's weather picture was in the Pantagraph newspaper. Way to go!
