Presenting book reports took quite a lot of time, but it was worth it. Some students wore costumes or used props. Some students handed out items like chocolate coins, a mystery code, and a circus ticket. Some people made it interesting by not telling us the criminal. The mobiles look great hanging from our ceiling!
In math we started our topic on area. We learned that area is the number of square units within a figure. The length times the width equals the area. Sometimes the label is square units, but it can also be square inches, millimeters, feet, miles, etc. We also learned about perimeter, which is the distance around a figure.
During P.E. we used a colorful parachute to do games called "Shark Attack," "Color Swap," and "Going Under the Parachute to Do a Little Dance." There are a couple of rules such as don't dive under or walk on the parachute. Sadly, our student teacher, Ms. Wise, finished her placement at Oakland. She gave us good-bye bracelets.
Our class created Australian art. We sketched marsupial animals and painted dots around them. The only marsupial in Illinois is the opossum. We love to draw Australian animals. Teagan won the art star award for drawing and painting a flying fox, the biggest bat in the worlds.
The BJHS orchestra came and played some amazing songs on Thursday. Some instruments they played were the violin, viola, cello, and bass. We thought it was entertaining!
The Multicultural Fair took place on Thursday night from 6:00-7:30. There were many different kids of dances from many cultures. They even asked people to dance on stage if they wanted. There was India, Mexico, China, Guatemala, England, Russia, Porto Rico, Ireland, and Africa. Their food was very interesting and good. Students visited each country and marked it off on a passport.
This week our class brought in $45 for Team Cael. He has leukemia, but is getting better. Kids who brought in a dollar or letter were able to wear pajamas on Friday. They will use this money to help with his medical bills.
Charlie was the "Heart of a Hero." Mary and Koby were the "A+ Attitude" winners. They all got to visit the office for a special certificate.
It's no mystery . . . this was a great week for students. Case closed!
