In math we focused on elapsed time, and many students thought it was easy and fun! Elapsed time is a challenging skill for third graders, so we spent 3 days on it! There are 3 ways to do it: T-chart, number line, or clock. Most students feel the T-chart is the easiest method.
In art we started Australian animals and we drew some alligators, cockatoos, flying fox (bat), and kangaroos. To make a signature, they put their hand on a boulder and spit paint onto their hand and the rock. We also watched a video on aboriginal art.
We are learning about jazz and the swing beat in music. In this type of music, there are few instruments: piano, trumpet, saxophone, and bass. Our class learned about Louis Armstrong. He was one of the first African-American jazz musicians. He was a good trumpet player and singer. During his time there was segregation, so he could only play in some hotels. Even though he was African-American, people still liked his music.
The BJHS band played a concert for us on Friday morning. The honor band conductor talked about all the instruments in a band: percussion family, brass family, and woodwind family. We also got to hear each instrument played by itself. All of the former Oakland students stood up. Then he conducted three songs for us.
Three special kids received awards. Stephen and Arianna won the "A+ Attitude" awards, and Emilee earned the "Heart of the Hero" award.
Oh no, our "time's" up! We hope you had a great "time" reading our blog, and it wasn't a waste of your "time."
