This week we have been learning about biographies. On Thursday, we chose from 4 different biographies: Wilma Rudolph, Duke Ellington, Billy Mills, or Jon Scieszka. Once we had our books, we read them then wrote level two questions. Next, we met up with a group and asked the questions. Furthermore, we wrote a paragraph with our groupmates. The paragraph was about why he/she was famous, successful, and what they gave to the worlds. Finally, we met up with a different group and shared our first group's paragraph. Studying biographies is fun!
Vvvvvvb is the sound of a straw being blown into. In science we did an experiment called the flute. To do this experiment, you flatten the end of the straw. Then you cut an arrow where you flattened the straw. Finally, you blow carefully through the pointed side, and voila there is your sound!
Every Thursday, our class works on spelling centers. There are six centers to choose from. The choices are: Play-doh, magnets, gelboards, pens, highlighters, and dry-erase boards. In each center, we do our best penmanship. We need to focus on the hardest words. Everyone enjoys spelling centers!
On Thursday afternoon, the third grade went to an assembly about firefighters. Ivy's dad, Firefighter Joe, is on the Bloomington Fire Department. We learned about all the equipment they use to get rid of the fire and what they wear. Some of the things they wear are a helmet, boots, and a big jacket. They taught us what to do during a fire and to stop, drop, and roll when you're on fire.
On Friday Rowan used water and shaving cream to demonstrate precipitation for his science experiment. Our class was amazed at what happened afterward. It actually looked like real rain. Recently, Sathvik passed all of his timed tests. Congratulations, Sathvik!
Don't forget there's no school on Monday because of a school improvement day. It will be a three-day weekend.
